Joe McPhee and Jesse Stewart

Saxophonist/pocket trumpeter Joe McPhee is a true creative visionary. He has performed and recorded with musicians ranging from Pauline Oliveros to Evan Parker, from DJ Spooky to the Nihilist Spasm Band. The Swiss-based HatHut record label, one of the pre-eminent new music labels in the world, was started in 1975 as a vehicle to release recordings by Joe. The Penguin Guide to Jazz on CD describes him as "one of the most consistently impressive and adventurous composer/ instrumentalists in the music." For his first ever Waterloo appearance, he will be performing with percussionist (and new NUMUS Artistic Director) Jesse Stewart, described by One Final Note as “one of the finest young drummers and percussionists on the scene today.”
