We open with Phenomenological Love Songs, a collage / cabaret featuring three flamboyant
soloists: Guy Few, Nadina Mackie-Jackson and Kimberly
Barber joined by the Penderecki String Quartet along with
a motley collection of jazz musicians. And we close with
the big party, 25th Anniversary Celebrations - a NUMUS remount from our first season: all
five of our former and current artistic directors performing
Steve Reich’s masterpiece, Four Organs.
And in between, everything from Andrew Downing’s
new score for the iconic silent film, The Cabinet of
Dr. Caligari, through the sublime Berlin Mass by Arvo Pärt, Cathedral and Candlelight, to
our theatrical study of musical modernism, Old Modernists/New Modernists, which features
music by the godfathers of the new music scene: Arnold
Schönberg, Anton Webern and György Ligeti.
We throw in a full evening tribute to Tim Brady’s
20th-century heroes, My Twentieth Century (including John Lennon and Dmitri
Schostakovitch), blend with some of KW’s most brilliant
musicians, bake at a feverish tempo, and top with
25 candles, each representing a year of exciting new music
events.
The NUMUS website has received a major overhaul and redesign for the new 2009/2010 season! Check out the new 09/10 Season to see the line up for next year.
