Anatomy of the Recovering Brain

Anatomy of the Recovering Brain

Anatomy of the Recovering Brain is an extended single-movement composition by Frank Horvat for bass clarinet, instrumental cameos, and fixed electronics focussed on bringing awareness to the invisible mental health impacts and struggles of having a brain injury. This piece is inspired by the story of bass clarinetist Kathryn Ladano and her recovery journey. The work brings together many voices of brain injury survivors who describe their challenges and successes in overcoming the prolonged debilitating hardships of their brain injuries. The work aims to enlighten and inspire. Proceeds from this concert will go to supporting brain injury survivors and their families in Waterloo Region and across Ontario. Commissioned by NUMUS with financial support from the Ontario Arts Council, Region of Waterloo Arts Fund, and the Waterloo Region Community Foundation. Tickets to the live performance include access to a post-concert reception and complimentary drink.
